Geography
The Bowness Primary School geography provision is designed to develop a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people, which will stay with them long beyond their time at Bowness. Through a broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum, we will ensure the progressive development of geographical concepts, knowledge and skills; enabling the children to develop a love for geography. Geography teaching at Bowness should develop the children’s knowledge of their local communities and what makes them unique and special. In addition, they will develop their knowledge and understanding of the wider world and enjoy learning about the world to have a better understanding of how people live in different locations.
At Bowness Primary School, in conjunction with the aims of the National Curriculum, our Geography key concepts and ideas are:
- Children will build connections to local, national and world Geography allowing them to build up ideas and opinions about places around the world.
- Children will learn about how Geography impacts us personally, through the study and comparison of our local area and carefully chosen places around the world.
- Children will gain a deeper understanding of the human impact on Geography, both now and when considering the future of our planet and the decisions we make as humans.
- Children will have a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes and the interaction between these.
