Bowness believes any school should be at the heart of its community.  We believe passionately in the power of school to help transform the community of which it is a part. We believe one of the fundamental elements of our schools ethos and something at the core of British values is the power of the community, where we have rights and responsibilities as citizens. As a community primary school we are proud of our links with our local and trust community.

Little Lever Cluster Competitions

Every year we join in with cluster sports events. These are a fantastic opportunity for our children to meet up with children from other local primary schools for friendly matches and competitions.

Prestolee Multi Academy Trust Competitions

Each month, schools from across the trust participate in a range of sporting competitions. These include; Handball, Quicksticks Hockey, Athletics, Netball, Football, Basketball, Tag Rugby, Rounders and SEND panathlon. This supports pupils to develop a sense of community within our trust schools. 

Kings Church Little Lever

We have developed close links with Kings Church in our village. The church support school by organising and running a Community Coffee Morning for parents, toddlers and the local community each Thursday in the school hall. There are a range of activities on offer from arts and crafts, supporting with PTFA events, creating scenery for school productions to courses for parents. 

Mr Gallimore

Mr Gallimore is a pastor at Bridgewater Baptist Church, who holds an exciting, engaging and reflective assembly each half term in school. Mr Gallimore focuses on key events in the Christian calendar for example advent and lent but also focuses on topics like empathy and new beginnings.  This allows our pupils to consider religion and build an understanding and tolerance for faiths and beliefs. 

Little Lever Carnival 

Primary schools in Little Lever brought the tradition alive back after more than 30 years. All six primary schools from Little Lever were involved – Mytham, Ladywood, St Matthews CE, St Teresa’s RC, Masefield and Bowness. The cluster of schools worked closely together on an arts project to revive the carnival. 

The event also celebrated the local heritage project ‘The Lost Carnival of Little Lever’, an exhibition which all six primary schools were involved in. The exhibition, which was held at Little Lever Library, showcased photos from previous carnivals in Little Lever and heavily involved the school children in its research. This also included participating in workshops with Bolton Library Service, working with local artists and musicians and local videographers.  

Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE)

Mrs. Clee is a representative on the Bolton SACRE board. The role of SACRE is to support and give advice to the local authority, schools, teachers, parents/carers on matters that are related to collective worship and religious education in community schools.

Fundraising for Local Charities

Each year at Bowness we carry out fundraising events for local charities this comes in a range of ways for example Elf run for Bolton Hospice, Harvest collections for Urban Outreach or Care and Share or poppy donations for our local Royal Legion to name a few. We feel that it is integral that we fundraise and support charities in our local area who support and serve our community. 

Manchester, Bolton & Bury Canal Society

Over the past 6 years we have worked closely with the canal society to educate our pupils about the history of the canal, coal mines and Rock Hall. We have carried out projects including designing and building bridges at Bolton Technical Innovation Centre and educational tours of the area.
